Now that he can't cope with Iraq and quite frankly, with most of the world, he wants to invade the moon! Dear higher authority, whoever you are, let this new year pass quickly, before this genius spends any more billions that we don't have, and save us with any new President" Leila Heim |

YOU ARE ONLY PARTIALLY RIGHT HBUI...Re: I SUPPORT PRESIDENT BUSH SPACE
In view of the Budget deficit of the order of 300 billions to 500
billions /year, one billion of additional funding for the space program is very small and tolerable. The Europeans who shared our values do not want to spend real money for space. The Russians are to broke to even think about that but the Chinese, I am sure, are going to spend big bucks to dominate in space. This is too dangerous for El Chino liking. One billion is an insurance policy to keep keypersonel in place. When the economy is better perhaps a level of funding of 10 billions/year are acceptable. Furthermore Space research and development always produced new dividend in term of new material, new electronics new guidance system that will be very useful for our high tech industry and competitiveness hbui99@msn.com (hbui) wrote in message news:<568b7889.0401161402.48ccd500@posting.google.com>... > nguyen_viet_2000@yahoo.com (EL CHINO BOATMEN'S CONSCIENCE) wrote in message news:<6ea9eed5.0401151450.77c13fef@posting.google.com>... > > 45 year ago President Kennedy started a program putting an American on > > the Moon. It sure will be a number of decades before the Chinese can compete in space with the Americans (provided that the Americans stay still, which they won't), so it's not the Chinese space program that worries Bush. The Americans cannot afford to give up their space industry, even after the recent failures of the shuttle program. The biggest pie in the sky is the ISS, but it seems to be a failing concept and if they want to scrap that white elephant, they need a new goal and a permanent station on the Moon suddenly seems easy enough to be feasible, yet challenging enough to revitalize the public's interest. Some calculation reports that NASA only needs 7% increase in their budget to set up a Moon base compared to the ISS cost, that's peanut if The President of the US is in a spending mood. -- HPN nguyen_viet_2000@yahoo.com (EL CHINO BOATMEN'S CONSCIENCE) wrote in message news:<6ea9eed5.0401161924.68177000@posting.google.com>... > In view of the Budget deficit of the order of 300 billions to 500 > billions /year, one billion of additional funding for the space > program is very small and tolerable. > > The Europeans who shared our values do not want to spend real money > for space.
