Fighting By The Other Guy's Rules?
Up until the fighting that took place (Indian Style) during the British Retreat back across Massachusetts in the Revolutionary War, fighting a war was pretty much a stand up and trade volleys affair! But during the Battle for the Alamo (1836), the enemy (Mexicans) were forced to assault a fixed position, and even though the battle was lost, it cost the Mexican Army dearly!
Battle plans and tactics progressed over the years until the Civil War, and even then, both sides utilized tactics that stayed pretty much the same, as was witnessed by Pickett?s disastrous charge at Gettysburg, the high water mark for the Confederate Army. Again in the Indian Wars, we were forced to fight a stealthy and courageous foe, and again we learned that you can not fight and always win, using the other guy?s rules! And it wasn?t too long afterwards, that we became involved in the trench warfare of World War I, and the slugfests in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of WW2! In that affair, we did use our superior weaponry (2 A-Bombs) to bring the enemy to his shattered knees! Korea, however, ushered in a whole new show! The fight ?em to a standstill, and then talk peace tactic of the UN came into play. But a decade or so later, we found ourselves embroiled in another hit and run jungle conflict against an enemy fighting upon his own turf, and pretty much by his own guerrilla rules. An enemy who, just a few short years earlier, had bloodied the Japanese and later gave the boot to Imperialistic French ambitions! We still had the best troops, right enough, the finest equipment, and the tenacity to walk away the victors. This, however, was not to be the case, as although we won virtually every major battle in this war, it was Washington who continuously restricted the full potential of our gallant troops, tactics and equipment! (opinion) Naturally, in Grenada and Panama, we quickly kicked ass, and this was followed by a magnificent victory over ?Saddam the Slimy? in Gulf War I! Twas Saddam, however, who won the ?War of Words?, as to him any weapon (even falsehoods) was (and still is) his weapon of choice! These included lies, mass deception of his own people, and a religious fervor that painted us out to be the devil incarnate, while he himself claimed to be some kind of avenging angel of Allah! (Bull Shit!) After the Coalition whipped Hussein?s ass in spades, we temporarily involved ourselves in that ?Shit House? in Somalia. We came in as rescuers, and left betrayed, with a bad taste in our mouths, and our nation in utter dismay! Hey guys (Political DC), don?t you realize that these ?Third World Bastards? know that we are going to fight them on their own terms!? Could you imagine what would have happened if David would have attempted to take on the Philistine Giant (Goliath) using a bronze dagger, instead a long-range sling? Or had we fought the British in 1776 toe to toe, bayonet to bayonet! There is no ?Marquis of Queensbury? rules in combat. It?s kill or be killed, and to hell with this gentleman crap? If we?ve got a bigger gun, a larger bomb, better logistics and tactics, or smarter generals, then by damn, let?s use them! ?In war, nice guys always finish last!? ?Now where did you say Hussein and bin Laden were hiding, and just how far is that from Diego Garcia?? Hydrogen you know, has other uses other than in dirigables, and with terrorist again planning on utilizing Chemical and Biological agents, the best way to combat their CBR (NBC), is with FOH (Fires of Hell)! VERITAS :
