Thumbs up The Climb Is Scheduled

Scheduled to climb Mt Adams on September 8 & 9.

Going up with a youngman Lennard Jordan. He's 36. He's 6'7" and weighs 240. Former 11B20 in the reserves. He is now an enviromental planner for the County of Yakima. He said he's going to drag me up the Mountain.

Mt. Adams. Third Highest Peak in the Cascade Chain at 12,276 ft.
It is the largest peak in Washington (in bulk / mass).

To the top.

It's been a lot of work getting into Mtn. Climbing shape.

I'll be almost 61.

Post Curtis,

I have been jogging (waddling at my age) 6 - 7 miles every morning. Also climb Manastash Ridge every Friday. Taking my vitamins. I have two walking sticks I made. But will be using an ice ax and crampons for this climb.

Only Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Hawaii, Colorado,Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and California have higher Mountains than Mt. Adams. However, most these mountains are in the Rockies and have a much lower base.

Brother Bob,

We'll be climbing the South Ridge. About 100 years ago they had a sulfur mine on the top of the mountain. The South Ridge basically has a trail to the top. They use to take mules to the top to pack out the sulfur. It's not a really dangerous route. However there are some very dangerous Mtn Climbing Routes on Mt. Adams. It is a great big beautiful peak. A much larger and older volcano than Mt Rainier, and some geologist believe the oldest major peak in the Cascades. However, the South Ridge is a long uphill climb that isn't too dangerous. The weather can be dangerous anytime of the year. Must carry artic weather clothing anytime you climb a Major Peak.

Can you make it up and back in one day or is this an overnighter?

Have forgotten how blue the sky is in Washington, how the mountains stand majestic over Washington. Loved it up there when I was stationed first at Fort Lewis, then Fort Lawton (in Seattle), and then back to Fort Lewis.

Post Climbing Mt Adams

A two day climb if you are in decent shape. One day climb if you are ranger, marine or in super condition.
Three day climb for donut eating cops.
