SAN FRANCISCO – The following venues are available media opportunities to cover Coast Guard operations and community relations events during Fleet Week. Please note that some venues will have limited access and media pools will be directed as necessary. LAW ENFORCEMENT SECURITY SWEEPS (dogs/ferry rides). Coast Guard and joint partner agencies will be on hand to show security measures being taken during this major community event.
FLEET WEEK BOATING SAFETY DAY. Public education event— Coast Guard and joint partner agencies to provide boat rides, recommend safety gear, go over “dos and don’ts” for boaters as they take to the water to enjoy visiting vessels during Fleet Week weekend. Boating and safety are primary concerns for the Coast Guard- reminding boaters to keep safe will having fun.
Wednesday, Oct. 5: CENTER MARKER BUOY DROP. The Los Angeles-based Cutter George Cobb will be setting the center marker buoy for the Blue Angels (guiding their aerial “turns”) in San Francisco Bay. Four other marker buoys will also be “dropped” at strategic zones as navigational guides to mark the 500-yard safety boundaries for passing vessels.
Thursday, Oct. 6,: INTERAGENCY SOFTBALL COMPETITION. Coast Guard teams will have a friendly battle against Navy, Marines and Oakland Police and Fire Departments on Coast Guard Island in Alameda. Scheduled for 9 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 8: PARADE OF SHIPS. Limited seating offered aboard a Coast Guard Auxiliary or Coast Guard vessel to views of Coast Guard and other visiting vessels underway during the parade of ships in San Francisco Bay. Views include those cheering the parade from pierside viewing stands.
Monday, Oct. 10: TRX FITNESS CHALLENGE. Friendly, yet intense physical challenge competition between the strongest from the Coast Guard, Navy and Marines at Pier 30-32. Scheduled for 11 a.m.
