Reverend Canon Matthew Vernon told the audience, “We are proud of our friendship with RAF regiment and we are honored to host this service today. We appreciate very deeply what you do for our Queen and country.” The regiment, which has its headquarters at RAF Honington, can trace their roots back to the RAF Armoured Car Companies that protected the air operations of Middle East peace preservation according to the report. “We are still fighting on the ground for the control of the air,” said Air Commodore Nicholas Bray, Commandant General of the RAF Regiment, 90 years after the RAF Armoured Car Companies formation. “And it’s reputed that RAF Regiment is the only organization outside the UK special forces that’s remained on operations since its formation 70 years ago,” added Bray. Bray also reminded the attendees to take time to remember those serving in Afghanistan and around the world adding that 10 regiment members have been killed in action or succumbed to their injuries since 2007. Group Captain Andy Hall, RAF Honington Station Commander told the EADT, “Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk and East Anglia show a wonderful sense of support to our men that means so much.” The service was attended by members of RAF Regiment Squadrons 1, 15, 26 and 27. Following the service a DC3Dakota aircraft completed a flypast. More... |
