Default 1st Cav Division receives orders

"The 1st Cavalry Division received deployment orders on March 2 to reposition forces in the US Central Command's area of operations to support the President's global was against terrorism.

This repositioning of forces provides increased military capabilities in the ongoing war on terror. Any further employment of these forces in a future combat role is a Presidential decision.

Fort Hood and the 1st Cavalry Division have responded from the onset of the war on terror and we continue to conduct prudent actions to ensure our readiness. The 1st Cavalry Division is trained and ready to deploy as required todefend America's interests at home and worldwide.

We will not discuss specific numbers of troops deploying or deployment destinations, or speculate on future employment of these forces."

I copied this from the official web site of the 1st Cav web site.

Default Deployment

Son #2 is with the 1st Cav, and he has received orders. Nothing specific, just "... get your defecation in the proper sequence of events..." I strongly suspect, as I told his momma, that the Cav will be part of the follow-on forces used to stabilize the country side, or to help pull down all the friggin' ugly statues of Saddam. Wonder what that sweet little 25mm chaingun would do on one of those statues?

Not to make light of the situation, but I can't live in fear or worry, as I know he has been trained so much better than what we received, is supported so much more than we were, and is commanded by so much superior leadership than we begged for. My advice to him was ... remember your training, keep the faith in your men and in your God, and trust in your country's support.

And tell him as long as Vietnam veterans are around he will never have to worry about whether he will be welcomed home.

Default Custers

7th Cav is not the one in Iraq. The media has been misreporting that since the beginning. "The Garry Owen" has not left for Iraq yet and is correctly identified by Doc Fred as being with the 1st Cav Division. Other divisions have Cavalry units also. Now, the two Apache pilots captured are with the 1st Cav. I think the only First Team people in Iraq are the 227th Aviation and maybe one other but the division is still at Hood. (see Scouts reply) A big "get some" to Scouts #2 son, and as Doc says, he'll never have to worry bout' a welcome home as long as I breath.

What a surprise the media got it wrong.

Airborne!
Airmobile!
Airmatrass!

Default Thanks

Truly appreciate the kind words and will pass them on to him! Son #1, Ranger, Ariborne, Snake-eater, CIB, etc. still cool. And you're right as rain on a tin roof: the absence of recognition that we endured will never be the lot of these Kevlar-plated Stud muffins! Gawd, I luv them all!
