US military nabs ISIS members of notorious ‘Beatles’ cell that executed American hostages

The US military has taken custody of two members of a notorious ISIS cell dubbed “The Beatles” who are accused of executing American hostages in barbaric videos that horrified the world, President Trump confirmed Thursday.

Alexanda Kotey, 35, and El Shafee Elsheikh, 31 — whose group got the nickname because of their British accents — are now being held in a “secure location secured by the U.S.,” the president said on Twitter.

“They are the worst of the worst!” Trump tweeted early Thursday.

“The Beatles” cell allegedly beheaded Americans James Foley, Steven Sotloff and Peter Kassig, as well as other Western hostages, with many others tortured.

Kotey and Elsheikh had been guarded by Kurdish forces in camps in Syria but were taken into custody to avoid possible escape during the incursion by Turkey.

“In case the Kurds or Turkey lose control, the United States has already taken the 2 ISIS militants tied to beheadings in Syria, known as the Beetles, out of that country and into a secure location controlled by the U.S.,” explained in his tweet, misspelling the group’s nickname.

Kotey and Elsheikh are the most notorious of several dozen ISIS detainees taken into custody by the US, The Washington Post reported.

“We are taking some of the most dangerous ISIS fighters out,” Trump said at the White House on Wednesday.

We are taking them out and putting them in different locations, where it’s secure. . . . We have a certain number of ISIS fighters that are particularly bad, and we wanted to make sure that nothing happened with them in respect to getting out.”

The group’s frontman, Mohammed Emwazim — dubbed “Jihadi John” and the man who carried out the beheadings caught on video — was killed in a drone strike in 2015.

Britain revoked the citizenship last year of both Kotey and Elsheikh — with them complaining that it made it impossible for them to get a fair trial, with one of them saying the beheadings were “regrettable.”
