Lightbulb Squad

Mech Infantry was a little different. They decided that we were supposed to have 6 men per squad.
1. Driver: M-16 and .45
2. Gunner: .50 Cal. and .45
3. Light Gunner: M-60 and .45
4. Thump gunner: M-79 and .45
5. RTO: M-16
6. Riflemen: M-16
(Also a 12 G. pump shotgun on most line vehicles. A lot of people who were suppose to have .45's didn't.)

Armored Cav units had more firepower - 2 M-60s and with iron shields.
I always felt sorry for straight legs and airborne due to their lack of firepower and ammo. Well, flet sorry till the RPG's started flying.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Default My TO&E said I was supposed to have 157 men.

But the most I ever had in the field with me was about 90. The platoons were supposed to have 4 squads each, with 11 men. I M-60, 9 rifles and two "Bloopers". Just about everybody carried a LAW and one or two 81mm rounds for the one tube we carried in the field. (they were too heavy and we had too few men to carry any more) The Medics were authorized pistols, but both carried M-16's and used them! I was authorized a Car-15 but gave it away to one of the Platoon Leaders and carried an M-14 with a scope. (We had 5 of them assigned to the company but nobody wanted to be a "sniper") It (the M-14) came in real handy after we settled into our night lager. We'd always have VC following us and they'd fire a few shots at us each evening. Managed to pick off a few here and there.
