Default Rangel's lie

http://www.frontpagemag.com/blog/index.asp Rangel's lie - Sunday, March 30, 2003 10:02 PM

Charlie Rangel seized center stage on the eve of this war by proposing a revival of the military draft -- not because he wanted his country to win the war. On the contrary, it was because he thought a draft would swell the ranks of homefront opponents of an American victory (Rangel sent a message of support to the anti-American demonstration in Washington put on by International ANSWER in January.) As disgraceful as Rangel's treachery was, the congressmanl topped it by attempting to inflame racial passions, saying that the present volunteer military would mean that minorities would fill the bulk of the body bags that came home. This racially inflammatory charge was not based on any fact of US military operations past or present, but that didn't bother Rangel who belongs to the club of racial demagogues on the Democratic side of the House.

Well, sadly but inevtiably the body bags have begun to come home. On Sunday, the New York Times printed the pictures of all 27 servicemen who have died in this war. Two-thirds or 19 of the 27 are young men of white European origin. The other 8 are Black and Hispanic, or about their proportion of the population as a whole. Of course this means nothing since thanks to the cowardly, terrorist tactics of the enemy, death has come sometimes at the rear of the battle or from combatants pretending to surrender. Moreover, we should all look on these warriors as Americans first and foremost. But what these grim statistics do show is that Charles Rangel is a racist demagogue who means his own country (which means his own people) no good.

Arnett

Peter Arnett's own treachery is nothing new. He betrayed this country during the Vietnam War and during the first war with Iraq. He is one of a legion of leftists in this country whose primary allegiance is to their fantasies of an American defeat in the clash of civilizations. What is surprising is not that an Arnett should have such views, or that tens of thousands of American leftists should share them. What is surprising is the tolerance the rest of America has had for the snakes in their midst so far.

Mrartardude, Peter Arnett is not a U.S. Citizen. I believe he is a Canuck. He's been FIRED! So I don't think we'll be seeing too much more of his sorry a$$.

Default here is what this website says about Arnett...

http://www.english.upenn.edu/~afilre...ar-arnett.html

...................Reporting from the enemy capital under siege earned Mr. Arnett the enmity of many Americans. After Mr. Arnett returned home, hecklers hounded him at speeches. But there were also dinners at glitzy restaurants with Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. And Mr. Arnett received a $500,000 advance to write his memoir "Live From the Battlefield."

In exchange for this fame, he has become an ambassador for the American news media, Mr. Arnett says. "Since the gulf war, I've addressed the role of media in society and explained why journalists do the things we do," said Mr. Arnett, who lives in McLean, Va. "Before then, I didn't feel that was my responsibility."

Mr. Arnett spent the last month speaking in the United States, Europe, Australia and his native New Zealand (he has been an American citizen for a decade). His speaking calendar is booked into 1997, but he says he rarely charges a fee.
