White House reportedly wanted USS John McCain hidden from Trump

Personal note: I find this absolutely disgusting. As Navy Vet - it would be a cold day in hell when I would cover my ships name in port! Trump really as a hardon for McCain and even from the grave McCain is still sticking it to Trump. I'm still chuckling!

The White House wanted the US Navy to move Arleigh Burke class Destroyer USS John McCain “out of sight” ahead of President Trump’s visit to Japan, according to an email reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

It has been reported by most US major news outlets, the White House Military Office and lower-level US Navy officials exchanged emails about moving the USS John McCain ahead of President Donald Trump’s recent Japan visit.

“There were emails between lower-level officers, but once leadership heard about it, they said knock it off,” a senior Navy official told the Wall Street Journal.

The White House Military Office provides military support for White House functions, including food service, presidential transportation, medical support and emergency medical services and hospitality services, say CNN.

Here’s some background on their relationship, courtesy of the outlet:

“Trump and McCain, who was the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, were frequently at odds before and during Trump’s presidency, up to McCain’s death. In 2015, Trump attacked McCain — who had been a prisoner of war in Vietnam — as “not a war hero” and again criticized the senator from Arizona after he died of brain cancer last August.”

134 sailors
She was also informally known in the fleet as the "USS Zippo" and "Forest Fire" or "Firestal" because of a number of highly publicized fires on board, most notably a 1967 fire in which 134 sailors died and 161 more were injured. Forrestal served for nearly four decades in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific.

There’s also a strange rumour, repeated by many on Twitter (according to some, mostly bots) that claims McCain started a fire and killed 134 people onboard an aircraft carrier.

According to Snopes and beginning in August 2017, a series of pro-Trump fake news websites took aim at the reputation of Trump administration critic John McCain by regurgitating an old, fabricated account of what caused a catastrophic fire aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in 1967.

The naval disaster killed 134 sailors and injured 161—one of those survivors was McCain himself, who sustained minor injuries.

The web sites, several of which also defamed McCain as having been “a ‘rat’ or ‘stoolie’” during his five-and-a-half years of captivity as a POW in North Vietnam, laid out details claiming McCain was “personally responsible” for the deadly conflagration on the deck of the Forrestal.

In reality, the fire was actually caused by the accidental firing of an Mk-32 ‘Zuni’ rocket as a result of an electrical power surge during preparations for a strike against a target in North Vietnam, according to the US Navy’s own exhaustive investigation.

She was a great ship one of many in the US Navy fleet.

May she rest in peace along with her crew members lost at sea.
