Last Artillery Round Fired in VN for 1/27 Wolfhounds

For the 1st Wolfhounds in VN was fired on a mountain named Nui Soc Lu. Somewhere around Xuanloc. We had gotten into a big fight there and lost several soldiers. When we stood down we fired 27 rounds into the mountain. I pulled the last shell case from the 105 and we had it engraved. "Last round fired in combat in support of the 1st Bn 27th Infantry in Viet Nam".

The reason for this is that Phillip is TDY to Hawaii and at Schoefield Barracks. I spoke to him on the phone yesterday and told him if he got a chance to go to the 1st 27th and that shell casing should be in their trophy case. Sure enough, Phillip just called and was at the 1/27 HQ and there was the shell casing. Said he had a great time with the SMAJ and BNCO. Told them the story behind the shell case.

Sid good job raising that young man. Wouldn't be surprised to find out latter that he picks up a few cool trophy's from a war zone himself.

Very cool . Sorta like your first grandson being named Zackery even though you never told Bill about Zackery. Somebody is watching out for us , again
