Default Letter From the VA

Dear (Griz)

The Va is writing to all veterans who have the hepatitus C virus.Your lab test results confirm that you have hepatitus C.........Blah,Blah,blah.

Holy SHIT! Couldn`t they spare a dime and at least give me a call?

I suddenly feel alone and a little scared, and more mortal than ever.I`ll contact my doc first thing Monday to make a game plan, but in the mean time I need your magic. How about it,Doc Fred?

Get tested.Vietnam vets are vunerable to this disease.

Default The first thing to do

Get all the information you can find. www.cdc.gov and look up hepatitis C. It can answer a lot of questions. It is a chronic disease and that means you can live with it if you work with it. An excellent support group is: national/hepatitis-c.org Then there is a VA web site: hepatitis.va.gov It's just another damn thing to have to manage.

As much blood as I was exposed to I have no idea how I missed getting Hep A. A cheap (free) and simple test is just to donate blood if you can. They do a Hep A test on all donated blood.

UPDATE
Doc says that all my liver enzymes and functions are fine so far.He has referred me to the hepatology clinic for follow-up,but he feels that I probably will not need to undergo any treatment(Interferon, which really sucks)at this time.Yahoo! Feel much better knowing that.
He also said that virtually all of Vietnam runs rampant with hepatitis and the number of us that it`s showing up in is staggering-So get checked out!
Thanks for the prayers and kindness..

Liver enzymes are a very sensitive test. If they are OK you liver is functioning normal.
