Angry Climate Change, Firestorm & Maui

8-15-2023

(More Personal Opinions)

Whether or not “Climate Change” was one of the major reasons for the massive fire-storms that recently swept across the Island of “Maui”, and killed almost 100 people (so far), is inconsequential to the fact that: “This Island” is a part of “Our Nation -“AND THESE ARE TRULY OUR BROTHERS AND OUR SISTERS!!”

We do not hesitate to send aid to a cornucopia of foreign nations that suffer the ravishes of war and nature as well, so why in the ‘Hell’ are we procrastinating now - when it comes to sending every bit of assistance that we can - to our own (and just as fast as we possibly can), to assist the hurting people of “Our Fiftieth State”, if that is, the reports of delays and procrastination in sending help to “The Paradise Island of Maui” are correct?

It seems to me that “Maui” deserves more consideration that sending billions of dollars in aid and emergency services abroad to every “Tom, Dick and Ivan”, at least as far as I am concerned!

And once again, these are “Our Own People” – and they pay taxes, they obey our laws, and once again, they are indeed human beings – and as such, any delays in supplying the help that they need is intolerable, unacceptable, and damned well un-American!!

And I can only hope that when election time draws near again in ‘Paradise (Hawaii)’ that the people of ‘Oahu’ have long memories, both for those who helped in their hour of need and for those in government who did not or who even procrastinated in their response – “What Goes Around, Comes Around” and one more time – “These are Our Very Own People and the reports that I saw on the tube that outlined the suffering, delays and miseries, that are now being visited upon some elements of “Maui’s Population” – (An Integral and Beloved Part of Our Fiftieth State), are definitely - “NOT ACCEPTABLE!!”

Exclamation Earth Will Continue to Warm and the Effects Will Be Profound

Earth Will Continue to Warm and the Effects Will Be Profound
RE: https://climate.nasa.gov/effects/

Two major take aways:

* (A) We already see effects scientists predicted, such as the loss of sea ice, melting glaciers and ice sheets, sea level rise, and more intense heat waves.

* (B) Scientists predict global temperature increases from human-made greenhouse gases will continue. Severe weather damage will also increase and intensify.

[The potential future effects of global climate change include more frequent wildfires, longer periods of drought in some regions, and an increase in the wind intensity and rainfall from tropical cyclones. Global climate change is not a future problem. Changes to Earth’s climate driven by increased human emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases are already having widespread effects on the environment: glaciers and ice sheets are shrinking, river and lake ice is breaking up earlier, plant and animal geographic ranges are shifting, and plants and trees are blooming sooner.

Effects that scientists had long predicted would result from global climate change are now occurring, such as sea ice loss, accelerated sea level rise, and longer, more intense heat waves.

["The magnitude and rate of climate change and associated risks depend strongly on near-term mitigation and adaptation actions, and projected adverse impacts and related losses and damages escalate with every increment of global warming."
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change]

Some changes (such as droughts, wildfires, and extreme rainfall) are happening faster than scientists previously assessed. In fact, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — the United Nations body established to assess the science related to climate change — modern humans have never before seen the observed changes in our global climate, and some of these changes are irreversible over the next hundreds to thousands of years.

Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for many decades, mainly due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities.

The IPCC’s Sixth Assessment report, published in 2021, found that human emissions of heat-trapping gases have already warmed the climate by nearly 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since pre-Industrial times (starting in 1750).1 The global average temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5 degrees C (about 3 degrees F) within the next few decades. These changes will affect all regions of Earth.

[What’s the difference between climate change and global warming?]

1. The severity of effects caused by climate change will depend on the path of future human activities. More greenhouse gas emissions will lead to more climate extremes and widespread damaging effects across our planet. However, those future effects depend on the total amount of carbon dioxide we emit. So, if we can reduce emissions, we may avoid some of the worst effects.

2. "The scientific evidence is unequivocal: climate change is a threat to human wellbeing and the health of the planet. Any further delay in concerted global action will miss the brief, rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future.

Notes:

a. Global sea level has risen about 8 inches (0.2 meters) since reliable record-keeping began in 1880. According to a joint report by NASA and NOAA, by 2100, even on the pathway with the lowest possible greenhouse gas emissions and warming (1.5 degrees C), U.S. sea level alone is projected rise at least 0.3 meters (1 foot) above 2000 levels by 2100. However, in a high-emission scenario that triggers rapid ice sheet collapse, sea level could increase by as much as 2 meters (6.6 feet) by 2100 compared to the year 2000. Sea level is rising because of added water from melting land ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms.

b. Even small sea level changes can cause increased flooding, because storm surge and high tides combine with sea level rise and sinking of land along coastlines to amplify flooding in some regions. Sea level rise will continue past 2100 because the ocean takes a very long time to fully respond to warmer conditions at Earth’s surface. As ocean waters continue to warm, sea level will continue to rise. Image credit: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0

c. Global climate is projected to continue warming over this century and beyond. The degree of climate change and severity of impacts ultimately depend on the amount of heat-trapping gases emitted by humans and how sensitive Earth’s climate is to those emissions. The Importance of Adaptive Resilience Solutions in the Face of Climate Threats
Climate change is increasingly causing severe weather events, posing significant risk to the safety of employees, customers, and physical assets, and threatening business continuity. More than $2.2 billion of damage was caused to physical assets in the US alone during 2022.1

The cost to organizations is significant. Those that cannot quickly adapt and respond to shifting risks and threats will be left behind. Future-proofing your resilience solutions is no longer a choice, but an obligation.

This new guide takes you through the major climate threats, how they are impacting organizations, and strategies for resilience solutions to protect both your physical and digital assets.

Personal note: Our world is undergoing internal and external alterations of which
itself is very visible. Our oceans are more active - as is our weather - all are out of
balance and sooner or later - the North & South Ice Cap's will melt out rising the
water along land borders.
-
Pop of a few hundred nuke's and it will accelerate the weather and our atmosphere
moreso.
-
In short we lessening our days on this planet - and our atmosphere as well.
-
It may be too late; as we've seen tremendous changes in our environment
North to South and East to West all are under some atmospheric changes
year after year. Another war or two - if that - will only quicken the changes
making human life - unbearable and difficult to sustain as well to change it
back to what it once was. Our Blue Marble from space - will turn to to a dirt
ball of massive contamination!
