(EXCERPT) OCEANSIDE ---- A town teeming with military history will get
a visit in April from a three-quarter-sized replica of one of the
country's most celebrated and emotion-provoking war monuments.

The "Vietnam Wall Experience," a 240-foot-long, 8-foot tall replica of
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will displayed at
Oceanside's former Mission Drive-In Theater on Mission Avenue.

The memorial will be open 24 hours a day from noon on April 23 until
midnight on April 25. Its appearance will include an opening ceremony
with bands, tributes and guest speakers, a Saturday candlelight
ceremony and a closing ceremony on Sunday night.

Created in 1990, the replica has a mirrorlike, black, faux-granite
finish and features the names of the more than 58,000 dead and missing
in Vietnam. It has visited more than 200 cities and been seen by
millions of people. The actual Vietnam Memorial in Washington,
designed by respected artist Maya Ying Lin, is more than 10 feet tall
and 493 feet long.

The replica is called the Vietnam Wall Experience because it wall
brings back tremendous feelings and thoughts of those who served or
lost loved ones in Vietnam, said Debra Kurtz, the executive
director...
