Even making mincemeat pies was forbidden! • “Xmas” sometimes used instead of “Christmas”, is thought by many to be a modern abbreviation and some even consider its use disrespectful. In fact, it originated with early Greek Christians in the 2nd and 3rd centuries a.d. In Greek, “X”the letter chi , is the first letter of Christ's name. The “X” itself was used as a sacred symbol because of its resemblance to the holy cross. --------------------------- to your enemy – forgiveness to an opponent – tolerance to a friend – your heart to a customer – service to all – charity to every child – a good example to yourself – respect ------------------------------------ ah – December! It’s the holiday season and nothing stirs our memories in quite the same way. It’s a time for family fun, hot chocolate by the roaring fire, gatherings of friends, gift-giving, holiday story-telling, cooking, eating, singing, sleigh rides, bundling up to keep warm, making snowmen and attending worship services.
