Default Bush's character

http://www.nytimes.com/auth/login?UR...on/11WED1.html

Editorial

The issue is not whether Mr. Bush, like many sons of the elite in his
generation, sought refuge in the Guard to avoid combat in Vietnam. The
public knew about that during the 2000 campaign. Whether Mr. Bush actually
performed his Guard service to the full is a different matter. It bears on
presidential character because the president has continually rejected claims
that there was anything amiss about his Guard performance during the Alabama
period. Mr. Bush himself also made the issue of military service fair game
by posturing as a swashbuckling pilot when welcoming a carrier home from
Iraq. Now, the president needs to make a fuller explanation of how he spent
his last two years in the Guard.

If a few missed meetings speak poorly of his character, how might it bear on
Bush's character if we find out his records were "cleansed" (by individuals
in the Guard he later promoted) to avoid political damage? It looks like
the answer is in those pitiful ABC/Wash Post poll numbers.

Default Re: Bush's character

I cannot speak of what really happened to military records of the President
from 30 years ago. I can only judge his character from what I have seen in the
past 3 years. A strong leader who places great importance on National
Security. No, we haven't found WMD in Iraq except for Sadaam Hussein. WE
have also not found weapons of mass destruction in the Sears Tower, Super Bowl
or Disney World.

Bush has been instrumental in disarming Libya which neither Bill Clinton nor
United Nations continually failed to do for the past decade.

As for John Kerry philosophy for MY security. He did an interview to a
Harvard editor years ago. Then he stated that the United Nations should have
control of American troops in times of conflicts around the world. This is a
nice theory but current UN history proves this to be a fantasy and if you
don't understand what I'm saying. Read the book Blackhawk Down or American
Casualties in Mogadishu. Better yet, read the body count for 26 counties in
Africa who have UN protection.

I don't care if Bush missed some drills and I don't care if Kerry spit at
returning troops. I do care about Homeland Security and I don't have any
confidence that Kerry would provide it.
