?TOM (RUBY?) RIDGE?

Is there a darker side to ?Homeland Security?? Is this safety net that is currently being proposed by President Bush more of a ?Side-Step? than a step in the right direction? Will the surrender of even a single liberty, truly cut into the horrors of world terrorism?

We are being asked to voluntarily submit to the first movements toward a police state (opinion), by accepting at face value, greatly expanded powers on the part of the Executive Branch and it?s newly united ?Mega Police Force!??

Now nobody in his right mind would contest the fact that ?Terrorism? is a mortal and ever-possible danger, but one does not cut off his head to spite his face! Granted, we are being (redundantly) assured that this Homeland Security Department is a benign entity as concerns American Rights and Liberties, but if it is, who will guarantee that it will remain that way? Remember, the British too, touted their actions prior to 1776 as being in our best interest, and we all know how that worked out!

I (personally) have no problem with uniting the resources, minus the intensive fire-power, of some redundant U.S, Law Enforcement Agencies, but when one incorporated a nation?s army into this potentially lethal brew, the danger of fatal abuse is definitely (ever) present (opinion)!

Some years back, was not a questionnaire distributed among selected elements of (OUR)
military, asking : ?If ordered to do so, would you hesitate in opening fire upon our own people?? Can?t happen says you! Are you familiar with ?KENT STATE UNIVERSITY??

Now don?t get me wrong! I, like most of you, am totally behind this nation and her people. Our nation is, after all, dedicated to, and controlled by, the people themselves (Or at least that is the way that it is suppose to be?) When, however, any nation surrenders the power to police to those with the power to wage war, does not the line of reason, oft-time become blurred!?

We have a great military, and most of our law enforcement is equally as great, but please Mr. President, do not over-step your mandate, and in the process, infringe upon rights that are not yours to infringe upon!

Again - ?One can not excuse away any wantonly immoral act by tying it to some higher purpose!?
