Talking Wounded Troops Get Weekend At Casino

Wounded Troops Get Weekend At Casino

40 Troops Injured In Combat Staying At Venetian

LAS VEGAS -- Forty troops injured in combat and their families are being treated to a weekend at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino.

The trip comes courtesy of the Armed Forces Foundation and Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson.

The troops will enjoy a Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas.

Each one was a wounded warrior. Inside the Venetian lobby, the crowd erupted with applause, holding signs reading, "We salute you."

"It’s a bit overwhelming. It’s amazing to see the show of support," said soldier Matthew Reilly.

Reilly was injured serving in Iraq, and he said this trip was a nice break from the Walter Reed Medical Center.

“For me, doing my job, I feel it’s a bit undeserved. But at the same time, the gesture is not lost on me," Reilly said.

"They put their lives in harm’s way for us … for us, for our parents, for our freedom. What more can you say to these people except, ‘Thank you,’” Adelson said.

"To come here and have the employees take the time off, that's more meaningful than anything else," said Patricia Driscoll of the Armed Forces Foundation.

"The people who really deserve credit like this are the wives, the family members that stay behind … behind the scenes, that suffer silently and don't get the credit they deserve," Reilly said.

With family and fellow soldiers by his side, Reilly said he is ready enjoy the world's largest five diamond resort.

“Better than first class high-roller treatment," Adelson said.

Reilly said even though he'll enjoy the weekend, his mind will be on his buddies still serving overseas, and he'll never forget his friends who gave their lives.

After the festivities, the soldiers and their families met up with the Adelson family at a reception.
