Default Update on NATO’s training mission in Iraq

Set up in 2004 at the request of the Iraqi Interim Government, the NATO Training Mission-Iraq (NTM-I) has strived to increase security in the country by building capacity in the Iraqi military. Because of its success in training and assisting the development of Iraq’s security forces – who are now fully in the lead of internal security – Iraqi Government leaders regard the mission highly and have expressed a desire to continue the partnership.
