Celebrity Worship
We just met our semi inlaws (kid's live together) ok
10 years ago our other son invited us to meet "real inlaws" to their house. My wife and I could not believe there was a 30 x 40 of Barry Manilow in the living room! Now we go to the semi inlaws to find an Obama painting in the living room! My wife who is German remembers how her Grand father was arrested for not having "dolph's" portrait in the house. I remember all the JFK pics in peoples houses (second worst president). I have a real problem with this "celebrity worship" Is there a difference! That I don't get! The only portrait that I have is one of "Riley" our dog that died in Jan. In the kitchen. Am I normal or are these people worped? Dave Pls excuse SP |

Dave,...
Sort-of ditto-ditto Arrow.
Still, you have gotten me a little worried about whether there's something wrong with me? I don't even have one portrait or piece of memorabilia whatsoever of nation's currently most favorite, adored, revered & venerated as if some godly celebrity, in my house. Nor, do I EVER plan on having such Obama's or any other Marxists' trinkets cluttering-up my house. Still, I must admit liking the wiggly little Obama dashboard figurine, which Glenn Beck toys with occasionally. At least such a little Obama would be worthwhile for SOMETHING, a chuckle or even holding donuts, pretzels & such. Were that The Big Barack were as valid & worthwhile a creature?? OK Dave,...you guessed it. I'm just not one of: King Obama's most ardent fans. Sorry. Neil

Reminds me of a funny story. In another lifetime, I was a Park Ranger in a Park in SW Virginia. I was in during Nixon's presidency. The Park Superintendent was a ardent admirer of Nixon. He was annoyed with us because someone had brought a small TV to work so we could watch the Watergate Hearings.
At any rate, Nixon Resigned and Ford became President. I went to take down the photo of Nixon in the Visitor Center lobby. Our Super would not allow us to remove the portrait until we received a new one of President Ford, so for a week or so, we had a Former President hanging in the Visitor Center where only Presidents could hang. Frankly, looking back on it, the whole thing was comical. But our illustrious boss just made it funnier by refusing to remove the Ex-President from the wall. Bill

Everyone thank you for your comments.
I have now concluded it is perfectly ok for me to bring down my "Farrah" poster and mount it (!) in the living room! I'm sure moma won't mind! Dave |
