C-SPAN Snubs Patriots Rally
C-SPAN to Cover ANSWER War Protest, Snubs Patriots Rally
C-SPAN has decided to continue its practice of covering anti-war demonstrations by ANSWER, an amalgamation of radical left-wing groups that will gather in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to stage a protest against U.S. plans to disarm Saddam Hussein by force. But the public affairs network has refused to carry the "Patriots Rally for America" counter demonstration in D.C. the same day. "C-SPAN has covered the last four ANSWER anti-war rallies in D.C.," complained Patriots organizer Kristinn Taylor. "Yet it's shown only one of our three counter-demonstrations to them." While the ANSWER gang can usually rely on many of the usual Hollywood suspects to lend star power to their gathering, Taylor said the line-up at the Patriots rally will be somewhat less glamorous, explaining, "We don't have any Hollywood stars, just a bunch of veterans who wish that their voices be heard." Also missing from the Patriots rally: the Iraqi flag, the Palestinian Liberation Organization flag and any flag representing Hezbollah, the terrorist group that blew up the Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, killing 243 GIs. All three flags, however, have been displayed prominently at past ANSWER gatherings. Actually, for those who aren't viscerally opposed to everything America stands for, the Patriots rally line-up ought to be quite stellar. Former Congressman Robert K. Dornan will address the gathering, after Capt. Frank Davis, U.S. Navy (Ret.) leads off with a reading of Red Skelton's always-moving version of the Pledge of Allegiance. Also on hand will be African-American Republican Leadership Council spokesman Kevin Martin, fresh from his triumphant appearances on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" and "The O'Reilly Factor," where he sounded the alarm about Senate Grand Kleagle Robert "KKK" Byrd. Other featured speakers will include UPI columnist John Armor, Aziz Al-Taee of the Iraqi-American Council and Joel Kernodle, spokesman for the group MOVEOUT! Taylor, who heads the D.C. chapter of the group FreeRepublic.com, will be emceeing the event. For those who want to attend the rally C-SPAN won't cover, the Patriots kick off their counter-demonstration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Constitution Gardens on the Mall off 21st Street and Constitution Avenue.
