Dragon Lady--glad to hear that us gals know how to handle our money. I too am not counting on SS or Medicare, and I've put my money in something other than the stock market or CD's--and everything I own is paid for. I've got rental property to help out, but I'm concerned that when the US economy gets so bad that no one can rent my houses (because they don't have jobs)--I'll have to fall back completely on the 25 acres I have and live of my own labor. I already raise most of my own food, but I'll have to come up with money to pay the property taxes somehow--maybe sell some of the food I raise to others (if they have money enough to buy it). As for medical coverage I plan to do without it entirely. If I get sick I'll just die--that's what's at the end of the trail anyway! BTW I'll retire in two years, so I'm at the beginning of the Boomers. I guess what I'm worried about is all those folks that are not planning for their futures.
