The Cuban Missile Crisis, 60 Years On
The Cuban Missile Crisis, 60 Years On
By: Foreign Policy New & Contributors - 10-30-22 10AM Re: https://foreignpolicy.com/2022/10/30...-russia-putin/ 1st. Photo link: https://foreignpolicy.com/wp-content...512&quality=90 Then- President John F. Kennedy, announces on television the strategic blockade of Cuba, and his warning to the Soviet Union about missile sanctions during the Cuban missile crisis on Oct. 22, 1962. KEYSTONE/GETTY “Not since this week in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy announced that any ballistic missile launched from Cuba would be considered a direct attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, has Washington so publicly warned an adversary that it risked a potential nuclear exchange,” Michael Auslin recently wrote in Foreign Policy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Personal note: We came pretty damn close - with Cuba's Castro who was at the helm down there. Freighters would carry Russian made missiles on their ships in plain view. We had photo's of the installation sites - it came very very close Khrushchev was pushing all the buttons and the Kennedy's I think did a marvelous job sustaining their launching in those days - it could've been a real mess had they gone active shooting. - [Although the current Russian President is Vladimir Putin denied last week any intention to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the specter of nuclear warfare has loomed over Europe, and the rest of the world, in recent months. Amid this nuclear saber rattling, we thought we’d revisit the Cuban missile crisis on its 60th anniversary and examine the lessons it offers for today’s world.—Chloe Hadavas] - Nuke's are pretty much spread all around the globe today - making it unnerving to their border nations. I do believe the first to pull the trigger will be his or her last - shortly thereafter. What follows - has yet to be seen - catastrophic results will be too horrible to sustain - the contaminates will go airborne spreading the elements all around spread according the weather making any 3rd party elements suffer as well. These contaminates will last for decades - or more - causing undo medical issues - to the locals who come in contact with it - for years to come. - How many of you remember this drill in school: - 2nd photo link Re: https://foreignpolicy.com/wp-content...resize=768,512 - Students at a Brooklyn, New York, school (and many other's across the states_ would take part in a duck-and-cover drill's in preparation for a nuclear attack in 1962. NEW YORK WORLD-TELEGRAM/GRAPHICAARTIS/GETTY IMAGES [The old duck and cover routine! We did this in 50's as well some of you may remember those days!] - Also in the 50's Every Morning & Evening TV's went off shortly after midnight' We also had TV Test Warning's - if Nuclear activity occurred & - The Duck & Cover if you old timer's still remember those days. TV came on in the morning with The Farm Report and shortly after Mid-Night or after Svengoolie then the Star Bangled Banner was on then the tube went black! Note: Some People also had bunker's underground - some were pretty fancy ones too! (I bet many of you can recall those days and years ago - late 50's early 60's). - But today - The Dangers would be more ‘Catastrophic & major Consequences’ 60 years after the Cuban missile crisis; Biden is re-creating nuclear deterrence on the fly, as Michael Auslin writes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
