THE "COLD WAR" HAS YET TO END

A Cold War campaign ribbon has been duly issued, to be rightfully worn by all whose service took place during an era which is said to have begun in a year certain, and ended in a year certain much later on. The award was premature. A war of that magnitude and duration does not end merely by claiming that it has.

I submit that the war is neither over nor won. An unthinkable treasury of time, money and lives has been squandered on all sides.

It did not end when the Berlin Wall came down. It did not end with the demise of the Soviet Union.

The catastrophic conflict between capitalism and communism stiil rages on, despite american claims to the title of "sole remaining Super Power", or even "Hyper Power". Very populace and resourceful communist nations whose governments have been our sworn enemies still are so in their minds and in our own government's thinking. The presence of much smaller communist societies and movements throughout the world stubbornly persists with varying degrees of permanence. Though seldom mentioned, current-day disputes between the two opponents are now better cast in terms of those favoring "Global Economy" led and controlled by American with European Union interests, and those whose governments are seen as, or are, Stalinist and Socialist.

Even the finest Thoroughbred horse will suffer and eventually perish if it is intentionally starved.
