Question A Navy Newbie-wife Question

My background is in the USAF but my husband is in the Navy Reserves and just passed the Chief's board.

Can some one please tell me what a SLUG is? Anyone Chief or above should know the answer.

I PROMISE I will hold this a secret. I just want to mess with him, just a little.

Welcome aboard.

A SLUG in the Army is a worthless piece of dirt (edited).
I imagine it would be the same in the Navy.

Trust me it's not the same thing. The Navy is an odd lot and I mean that with the utmost respect and LOVE!
In the Army yes a SLUG is a slacker. In the Navy it is an acronym specific to a Navy Chief Selectee.
I've been told the Air Force is a country club and yes it was compared to the 200+ years that the Navy has been around.

If it's affectionate for the Navy, that explains why it is the opposite in the Army!
Nothin' but love Navy!

I went to this site and couldn't find the term. I spent 12 years in the Navy and "slug" wasn't a good term - but that's been awhile so things may have changed?

My My My,

It was my understanding ( a long time ago ) that a "slug" was an administrations CPO of the rank e8 or E9.

They just sit back and bark orders and do nothing else ( like one of those squirmy slugs that you find under wood)

Other than that I HAVENT THE FOGGEST....

Surly someone will come up with the correct answer.

enough..........

Default Slug..????

Sorry, never heard the term. When I was in CPO?s were called ?Goats? and the CPO quarters were called the ?Goat Locker?. Of course, only the most imprudent would say that to them directly, LOL.

Thanks Guys! We are having such fun with this around our house and many others across the world are too. Actually the Goat Locker is the name of the Chief's mess and there is a website dedicated to them by the same name.

Well we found our answer and sorry but I've been sworn to secrecy. I have found that there is a definate difference between a Chief and an E7. A Chief can hold the rank of E7 but not all E7's are Chiefs.
For someone who once swore she would never be a Navy wife...I'm really coming to a new respect and understanding for my brothers and sisters in arms.

Stay safe!
