Post We had Milt's memorial service today.

Milt's memorial service was today. Lots of WW II vets there. He was a real WW II hero in this valley. I learned something from his brother who also served in WW II. That Milt was a dairy farmer before the War. They weren't drafting Farmers so he went and sold his entire dairy herd and volunteered for the draft. He started basic training in February of 1942. The worst part of the war was the two years of artillery practice before they got into action.

Glenn Lewis Milt's brother told me he was airborne. I asked him if he parachuted into France and he said no. I glided in. He was with a glider outfit and they landed behind enemy lines early on D-day. He said they were called airborne even though they weren't jump qualified. The two brothers beat the odds and both came home without a scratch.

May Milt rest in peace.

Keith

Those Glider Riders were some tough guys. As they used to say, "No jump pay. No flight pay. But never a dull moment!"
