Sharpe, Thomas F. NORTH GREENBUSH Thomas F. Sharpe "Tom" passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old. He was born in Troy and was the son of the late William and Amy Sharpe. Tom is the beloved husband of 52 years to Patricia A. (Colley) Sharpe of North Greenbush, N.Y. He is also survived by his children; Deborah Sharpe-DeFries of North Greenbush, Caren Reardon (Steve) of Waterford and Thomas W. Sharpe of Troy; grandchildren, Christopher and Erin Reardon and Dylan DeFries; loving cousins, nieces, friends and loyal companion Mr. Bingly. After completing boot camp at San Diego in 1950, he took his fleet Marine Force training at Camp Pendleton and left with the eleventh replacment draft for Korea in 1951. There he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine, 2nd Battalion Fox Company 60 MM. He was discharged in 1952, graduated from Troy High School and then was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 1988. Tom joined the Military Order of the Purple Heart Corporal Arthur Willi Chapter #17 of Troy in 1952. He held Chapter and Department offices for many years and became MOPH Department of New York Commander from 1959-1960 and MOPH National Commander from 1984-1985. He devoted much of his time to veteran's affairs and was a member of many organizations: Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, Korean War Veterans, Marine Corp League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Lansingburgh Veterans, Tibitts Cadets, Troy Elks and the Masons of Troy. Tom was given the honor of being Rennselear County Veteran of the Year in 2010. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 3rd St., Troy with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to remember Tom in a special way may send a contribution to the Veterans Admintration Medical Center (VAMC), 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208, Attn: Voluntary Service GPF 1337. The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at the V.A. Medical Center and Robert Reider for all their care and compassion.
