I have heard an old huey in flight once, something about that loud rumble made me want to cry.

We also have a bell plant here that completes the ospreyand will soon I believe complete the new presidential helis. I love the sound of helicopters.

Default Many Years Ago:

Many years ago I was on the Thurston County Planning Commission. Thurston County is the County in which Olympia the state capitol is located.
Anyway we had a petition come in that a bunch of citizens wanted the Airport moved to another location. They complained of noise and extra traffic in the area. We heard their complaints and then asked them were they lived. They all lived near the airport. We asked them how long they had lived in the area. The longest anyone had lived in the area was 5 years. We pointed out that the airport had been their since the late 1920's at which time it was very isolated. But as the community expanded more and more housing was built near the airport. The airport had been their long before anyone had moved there. We ask them why they bought a home when they knew the airport was very close. They stated... "we didn't think it would be all the noisy." We told them if they didn't like the noise to sell and move because the airport wasn't going to move because they didn't take in account the noise factor before they bought was not a reason to have the county move a major airport. The airport is still there in the same place. That took place over twenty years ago. People need to take responsibility for their own decisions.

Keith you hit the nail on the head. No matter what you tell folks they refuse to see that they were responsible. Airports are always built 20 to 30 miles out of town just for that reason plus safety. More and more companies to service airports build close to them to service them - this I understand but why people move so close is really an issue they have no one to blame but themselves. Point has been made on this thread.
