West Valley Students Collect Items for VA
West Valley Middle School students are celebrating Veterans Day by collecting comfort items today for residents of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Walla Walla ? and they're asking the community to help their cause.
Students and staff, along with members of the local chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, are gathering hotel-sized soaps, lotions and shampoos, disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, packets of coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and other comfort items for patients at the hospital.
The hospital serves 15 counties of Washington state, including Yakima. But because their services are offered at reduced or no cost to veterans, the agency is unable to provide comfort items usually associated with a hospital stay.
Anyone interested in contributing is asked to bring items to the school, 1500 South 75th Ave., by the end of school today.
Donations will be presented during a Veterans Day assembly Wednesday.
