Here is a photo of a cougar killed SW of Jet, Oklahoma. The hunter who

shot it (pictured) is 6 foot tall and weighs about 220 lbs. He was in a deer stand

and saw the cat pass him downwind. He then saw it pass him upwind. When

the cat passed him again (closer this time) downwind, he knew that HE was being hunted. So, boom!

Tenino, WA 1982. I was deer hunting and came upon a cougar lying on a log right by a watering hole very late in the afternoon. I sneaked up to within 25 yards and then asked him the question. "Watcha ya doin?" He jumped straight up in the air turn and ran down the near by logging road as fast as his big legs could carry him. Cougars sure are big cats.

Newport, WA 1996. I was deer hunting in a snow storm hoping to come upon some huddled down deer. I circled around behind myself and noticed that there were really big kitty tracks in my recently made footprints in the fresh snow. I immediately got into a log off clearing. Made sure I had put 100+ yards between me and him. He had been stalking me, I don't know how serious but he was trailing me. I was one scared fellow. Never did see him.

I've only seen three cougars in the wild. They are a sneaky bunch. Don't usually hunt people.
