Default Matewan

Played in the Annual Celebrity Golf Tourneyment here last Saturday and one of my playing partners was in the movie MATEWAN. I don't know how many of you have ever seen it but it is a cult classic as they say. It is about the shoot out between striking coal miners and company "police", murdering thugs called "Baldwins", in the 1920's in Matewan, WV. The High Sherrif at the time was Sid Hatfield.....yep, Hatfield's and McCoy's. It's a hard to find movie, although NetFlix has it, but one well worth watching. The guy, Frank Taylor, was happy I knew about the movie. He plays a Baldwin Man and gets shot in the head by Hatfield after he shoots the Mayor in the stomach in the famous gunfight scene. I would recommend this movie and remember....it's a true story. James Earl Jones is one of the stars. In those days it was basically legal to shoot striking workers. We've come a long way.
