Default Steve...Help Me!

As the Master of Trivia......who was

J.T.

J.T. from old Boston town.

Remember that name, he fought against the Crown.

Fought and won cause his heart was free...

Fought and won for Liberty, Oh, J. T., J.T.

The song kept going through my head today.....and I got it. Now, can you? Or anyone else. More old guy stuff, but can't believe I all of a sudden remembered this. I would imagine that Revwardoc will beat you on this one.

Packo,

That would be Johnny Tremain (or Tremayne).

Reminds me of that great 1957 Disney movie "Johnny Tremain" and its great song...

Plant the seed in our homeland, boys. Let it grow where all can see.
Feed it with our devotion, boys. Call it the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Save it from the storm, boys. Water down its roots with tea.
And the sun will always shine on the ole’ Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

March along with the piper, boys. We were born forever free.
Let’s go pay the piper, boys, beneath the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Pay the price they’re asking, boys. Always pay the tyrant’s fee.
Never give up the struggle, boys. Fight for the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Stand for the rights of man, boys. Stand against all tyranny.
Hang the lamps of freedom, boys, high on the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

N’ it will grow as we grow, boys. It will be as strong as we.
We must cling to our faith, boys- faith in the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Default Yes!

I knew it would be close....

I remember having a Johnny Tremain hat and getting a Sons of Liberty (plastic) coin out of one of the many cereals of that day. Forget which one.

Went to Amazon and sure enough they have the Disney movie on DVD. So I ordered it...and got the 2 disc Davey Crockett with it. Haven't seen any of this since the 50's so should be fun.

RevDoc....Rigger got in under the tag but I knew you'd know it.

I really do owe a debt of gratitude to Ol' Walt for the Johnny Tremain series. It led to my current hobby of Rev War re-enactments. I taped JT off the Disney Channel (back when it was good). It ranks right down there with "The Patriot" as far as historical accuracy but it was fun to watch way back when.

As for Davy Crockett, I still have the coonskin cap I bought when I was 6! I had the plastic flintlock rifle, too, but that went the way of all things one day while I was "defending the Alamo" in my backyard and my cousin got a bit too enthusiastic playing a Mexican.

I also have a Robin Hood peaked hat, complete with feather, that I bought at about the same time.

Did I ever tell you I met Fess Parker in Vietnam?? No kidding!! it was in Ban Me Thuout, Spring '68. We had just come back from patrol and were getting cleaned up. (This was in the Helicopter base north of town where we saw the waterslide park , Tom C)

I had just come out of the shower, walked out the door and there he was---Davy Crockett himself. This was kind of odd to me, because, being a lrrp, I was actually doing a "Davy Crockettt" type job.Heck, we even worked in "Indian Country" (tho I sure never saw no indians there!)
I got his autograph, which i still have, wish I had a picture. I asked him why he didn't do the Davy Crockett show on tv instead of Dan'l Boone. He gave me a 1 minute lecture on contracts, trademarks and property rights. About 10 years ago I heard him on a radio call in show and called in. He didn't remember me personally of course but remembered the place and time.

I STILL hum both the Davy Crockett song and the Johnny Tremain song. What a bunch of crap they pounded into the heads of my generation..

Fess Parker's an ex Marine, by the way

Stay good
James

Default James...

that is such a bizzare story. I love it! Only in Vietnam did really weird $hit like that happen. I can only imagine the look on your face when you ran into him. A classic WTF moment. Davy's place is on the Fred Tours list. He took Andy, me, and the wives there the first time we visited and your right....it's NOT on a mountain top. Still have the coon skin cap from Fred. RevDoc...had the musket's, hats, and everything else. Most of my stuff got broken by my older brothers. My older brother Bill collects stuff like that so I just sent him the only surviving CAPT. MIDNIGHT OVALTINE cup left in our family for his collection. I've had it for probably 50+ years. Anybody else get one of those as a kid?

Can't wait to get my DVD's and relive some yoot. Yep...not historically accurate but remember, when the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

Default Pack and James

Goes to show ya what you guys know about Ole Davey Crockett......He was born on a mountain top in Tenn. (as the song goes)not buried. I had a pair of Davey Crockett pants complete with the leather fringes down the legs. (they finally wore out last year)
I too still have my coonskin cap that Fred got us a few years ago

Default Watched Johnny Tremain

last night and was surprised at how good it was from 1957. Expected it to be a little hoakier than what it was. Sure enough, they were wearing the Sons of Liberty Medal around their necks. Mine was plastic and a bit of a disappointment when I got it 50 some years ago...but hey, it wasn't my first nor last disappointment in life. Tonight, Davey Crockett. Will look for a walk on by James in the background. The DVD has the original Davey Crockett, from child to Alamo, and Davey Crockett meets the River Pirates....a bonus.
