Been there twice. Great concept, one place where everybody can honor the fallen. Semper Fidelis to our band of brothers.

Default The Wall

Went there once about 10 or so years ago. I was headed for Idaho to go down the snake river and decided to vist the wall. Got to the wall about 05:30 in the morning. The guys I was with are on 23 east. I stayed about 30 min. and went to Idaho. There was no one there but me, Gary, Big Man, Hooky, Troop, I'll have a beer for ya tommarow when I get off duty.

Default Excerpt from the healing wall

... Then I began to move my hands over the wall
...over names I did not know,
...slow at first then faster, almost frantically
...at first not knowing why, but then knowing.

...I was looking for one name,
...I was looking for the one groove that my hands would know the best,
...The one that would confirm what I always knew to be true, but was afraid to admit,
...A name that wasn't there, but should have been mine.

...It was that realitatizion, that surprize when it all rushed in,
...The horriblenes too horrible to remember,
...Too awful to forget
...When it all came back in on me, overwhelming me, forcing me to face what I could not accept
...The source of my guilt, my one great sin,
...I had lived, I had survived, I came back...

...I left the wall.
...I asscended out of that deep, dark hole of a different person.
...Tired, emotionally exusted,
...I stood there looking back where I had been.
...I knew my pain had not magically left me
...carry it with me today, but I carry it, It no longer carries me.

...This was the healing I could not find before

...The Wall told me my name was not there,
...and said go save your life, you do not belong here.

...And so I do, live my life now,
...beyond The Wall

Default Hallowed Ground

Been to 'The Wall' on three occassions to honor and visit with my friends.... Had the priviledge of being in one of the Honor Guards in 1992 for the 10th Anniversary and presented the national colors during the opening ceremonies last Veterans Day during the 20th Anniversary...

Truly an awesome place and definitely hallowed ground...

I try to get there as often as I can when I'm in DC... I miss my friends...

Default The Moving wall is in Waycross GA.

Today the wife and our grandson went to the moving wall here in Waycross Georgia. It was around just before sundown and the sun was setting shining rays of sunlight on the wall in the field it was set up on. We took several pictures of it and It was a solom occasion for both Me and my Wife Stephanie. while we were near the road some jerk showed their IQ and gave Us/the Wall the Finger I guess their parents were Anti-war protesters in the 60's . Afterword me and the wife talked about how it felt seeing all the names and we both felt awed by it but since both of us didn't have any close friends or relatives die in Vietnam the personal loss wasn't there for us .We could feel the empathy with others who lost loved ones there at least. There were numerous Flowers and letters there at the base of the Moving Wall and one picture of someones grandson. I hope all who lost someone overthere makes it to the wall at least once and if you can't make it to DC make it to the moving wall when it comes near you.God bless the Soldiers represented by the Names on a wall. For as the inscription on the Confederate Soldier Marker down here in Georgia states: "Many of whom gave all,And all of whom gave much" 1889 apx.
