US Navy cruiser escorts Russian submarine to the Mediterranean Sea
US Navy cruiser escorts Russian submarine to the Mediterranean Sea
Sunday, May 14, 2017 9:04:00 AM RE: http://uawire.org/news/us-navy-cruis...iterranean-sea The Krasnodar cruise missile submarine of the Russian Navy entered the Mediterranean Sea under escort of an American Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported. According to the news agency, the Russian submarine navigating above water passed Europa Point, located in the south of the Gibraltar peninsula under "close watch" of the American warship. Earlier, on May 5, the British warship Somerset shadowed the Russian Krasnodar submarine during its passage through the English Channel. According to The Telegraph, the British Naval Service regularly escorts Russian ships through the Channel. However, the convoys have recently became "more high profile as relation between Moscow and the West have plummeted.” Russian Naval forces are not the only ones to receive escort this year. In April, Canada scrambled its fighters to escort Russian bombers near its northern coast. In February, Britain and France scrambled their fighter jets to escort Russian Tu-160 bombers flying near their airspace.
