Default end of Oct 1967

We were attached to some Cav unit that had APCs we mover northwest from Kontum to an area that was a special forces camp. For the next couple weeks our BN and the Cav unit were in some pretty good fights, the Cav lost a bunch of helicopters and there APC Commander was put in for and received the MOH.
We lost our S1 , Major Wynn, He came to us from the 101 when we were around Chu Lai.
Around the middle of November we moved to Dak To

Although the 19-22 of november was a real hard time with the 173rd, it was no harder and maybe easier that the month before with the CAV northwest of Kontum. If you can call changing your pants daily easier. Well, I don't really think that few days with the 173rd was easier.

This came from an americal site.
Cut and paste

The 3rd Bde., 1st Air Cav. Div. launched Operation Wallowa some three weeks after the initiation of Wheeler, and the two operations were combined on November 11, 1967, making Wheeler/Wallow one of the longest running operations being conducted in Vietnam.
The "Gary Owen" skytroopers met and badly defeated elements of the 2nd NVA Division in action in the Que Son Valley.
With the departure of the original brigades, the operation was taken over by the men of the 196th Inf. Bde.; 3rd Bde., 4th Inf. Div.; and 1st Sqdn., 1st Cav. It is now controlled by the 198th Inf. Bde.
Wheeler/Wallowa has been the leader of the division's combat operations and is perhaps typical of their pattern.
The fighting is steady, with U.S. soldiers working doggedly to rout a well-entrenched enemy from positions he has regarded as "home" for years. It has been basically unspectacular, but the enemy is gradually becoming dislodged and the area is becoming more secure.

End paste
