SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 29, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): The first elements of the Royal Thai Volunteer Regiment, the "Queen's Cobras," arrive in Vietnam (some sources give the date as September 21) and move to Bear Cat/Long Thanh to be stationed with the U.S. 9th Infantry Division. They begin combat and civic action operations in the Nhon Trach jungles, 20 miles southeast of Saigon.
September 29, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase V): C Company 3 RAR joins Operation Windsor.
September 29, 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]) (US Summer-Fall 1969): Laotian government troops supported by U. S. aircraft recapture the strategic outpost of Muong Soui, which fell to the Communists in June 1969.
September 29, 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]) (US Summer-Fall 1969): ARVN begins Operation Quyet Thang 21-38 in An Xuyen Province.
September 29, 1972 (Year of the Rat [Nham Ty]) (US Cease-Fire): Heavy US air raids against North Vietnam's airfields destroy 10% of its Air Force, which by now includes 80 MiG-17s, 33 MiG-19s and 93 MiG-21s, the survivors of which engage US forces in battles for air supremacy over the North.
