SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 28, 1964 (Year of the Dragon [Giap Thin]) (US Advisory): Montagnard uprising: The situation is finally brought under control by U.S. advisers acting as intermediaries. Montagnard demands are to be presented to the Vietnamese government in a mid-October conference. These include publishing of government policy in regard to land ownership and relations between Montagnards and the government; representation in the National Assembly and at the district and province levels of government; positions in government bureaus and local government offices; larger Montagnard quotas in Vietnamese officer and noncommissioned officers schools; Montagnard tribunals; and certain symbols of Montagnard autonomy, for example a Montagnard flag, Montagnard languages taught in primary schools, and retention of Montagnard names for cities and villages.

September 28, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): 1 RAR and supporting units have established a strong defensive position at Bien Hoa with effective logistics and administrative support and have achieved dominance of their TAOR.

September 28, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase V): Just after 0200, the battle for Thuong Duc SF Camp begins when elements of the 21st NVA Regiment overrun two outposts located about 600 yards southeast of the main camp. Allied forces retake the outposts later in the day after heavy fighting. Aerial strikes and artillery are used against the enemy forces.

September 28, 1968 (US Counteroffensive Phase V): 3 RAR tactical HQ, B and D Companies insert into Fire Base Cedar, between Nui Dat and the Courtenay Rubber Plantation, to begin Operation Windsor.
