Default Battle of the Pineapple

Patrick, I coved this in a post to Matt but briefly, the area had no
pineapples. The area was called the Pineapple Forest because that particular
area west of Tam Ky looked like a pineapple on the topo map due to the topo
lines and greens and brown color. You need a 1:25,000 map to see it and then
you have to use a bit of imagination as is usual on these map things.

In some old links that you sent me long ago (best I remember) I found that the
Marines called this area the Pineapple Forest also we they worked it before the
Americal..

I saw the post to Matt. I will have to look again, but are you talking
east or west of the Industrial complex of An Hoa or the base of
Charlie Ridge? As you know I have a substantial collection of maps,
but can't see the outline. I know Tam Ky was a helicopter base when I
was there.

No no Patrick. Much to the south of An Hoa down south to Tam Ky (15-20 clicks
I'd guess from an old bad memory).

There is an improved road leading west from Tam Ky. I forget the number but we
called it the Tin Fuck (Tin Phuc) road. The tragedy of FB Maryann lies past
the end of the road.

Take this road west 5-10 clicks (bad memory again and I've packed up the maps
Carl sent me) and to the north (mostly) of the road and going west until you
hit the higher foothills is the Pineapple.

I couldn't see it on the 1:50,000 maps and I knew where it was. I'd give my
left nut, since it isn't doing much anymore, to have my old 1:25,000 maps.

And if Carl Hatchell doesn't check in pretty soon I might have to jack him up a
bit.

O.k. Got it now. I checked that book out of the library (Where We
Were) and it confused the hell out of me. You guys renamed everything

I've read good reviews on "Where We Were" and was hoping to add it to my
collection some day.

What do you think of it?

Also, while poking around I found two battles of the Pineapple Forest. A
earlier one concerned Marine units and the 1968 one concerned the 1/1 Cav
(which F Troop rode with for a while) and F/8, the chopper unit. What do you
know about this? Didn't have any actual blow-by-blow details but a CD was
available.

One hell of a book, JP contributed as did a lot of other posters and
former posters. Pricey, but then as I said, I got it at the library.

I will do a little research on the below. I am still trying to find
what I clearly recall was a tea plantation and it drifts in and out in
my sleep for the last thirty years. But nobody else seems to remember
it.
