Default Stabenow will Oppose Roberts' Nomination

Sen. Debbie Stabenow said Friday she will oppose the nomination of John Roberts to become the next chief justice of the United States because she is alarmed by his writings and views on fundamental rights enjoyed by Americans.

Stabenow, D-Mich., said in a statement that Roberts refused to answer many questions during his confirmation hearings about how he would protect constitutional rights. Her review of his writings found that Roberts "argued that the Constitution did not protect workers, voters, women, minorities and the disabled from discrimination."

"I believe that his philosophy undermines our most cherished and fundamental rights, liberties and freedoms as Americans, and for that reason, I will be voting no on his nomination next week," Stabenow said.

She also raised concerns that Roberts "argued the Constitution does not firmly establish the right of privacy for all Americans."

Stabenow called Roberts "an intelligent man with a record of public service" but she called him "the wrong choice for a lifetime appointment," noting that he could be "making decisions on the rights of our children and grandchildren for the next 30 to 40 years."

Judge Roberts is correct the Constitution as written by the founders didn't do any of those things she mentioned since at that time and place none of the subjects she mentioned existed in their present day form. But, State and federal laws passed in the last 200 years have filled in those voids and so far are considered legal standards till some group or organization finds them not to be. It doesn't matter whether its John Roberts are Teddy Kennedy is confirmed they both have the same power to change or uphold the Constitution. Just as a super majority of the House and Senate can pass any law they feel fit to chose and even over ride a presidential Veto if they Choose. That is the power of the Three parts of American Law the Judiciary, the Legislature and the President. Any one of the Three can make a Change in US Statute or Law.
