Fort Massachusetts in Mississippi was one of the most important, though easily forgotten, bastions of U.S. History to be found within the entire length and breadth of our great nation! And although originally constructed of brick and mortar, “Dear Old Mother Nature Herself” has taken no small role in attempting to, raise to the ground, this martial bastion of mankind’s endless, and historical, battle to determine whether the hand of “God”, or the fury of the elements (and mankind himself), will prevail in the final tally?
And when the unchallengeable outcome of that final battle levies its thunderous roar over this land, and its inevitable verdict upon all things that were created by the hand of man – “WHAT THEN?!”

Of course, this is not to say that humanity will not fight back against the onslaughts of ‘Nature’s Fury and fight back we must and have, lest we allow our works and our efforts, to merely erode-away under the tumultuous onslaught of time and tide themselves!

And so it is and so it will forever remain, lest mankind too merely fade-away with barely a whimper of indignation and this beneath the never-ending onslaught of the unbeatable natural elements themselves! “For we are but weak mortal beings and even our most stalwart creations are but a poor and temporary vanguards against the mighty forces of Nature!”

And so it is once again, even with ‘Fort Massachusetts’ whose formidable ramparts of brick were but poor challengers when pitted up against the relentless, and never ending fury of “Nature Herself!” And yes indeed, Fort Massachusetts was constructed to beat-back even the mighty forces of “Nature”, but when “The Unrelenting Furies of Humanity, Time and Nature Themselves” come head to head with the workmanship of mankind, then our entire race inevitably loses! And so it was with “Fort Massachusetts”, one of mankind’s foremost handiworks (At The Time), that was created even before “The American Civil War” in order to hold back the turmoil of humanity’s hatred and distrust!

But even with his mightiest efforts to contain the savagery of his brothers, as was attempted by “Northern and Southern Forces Alike”, over one hundred and sixty years ago, it now falls to humanity itself to try to repair, and to refurbish, the damage inflicted by cannonades, neglect and even the savagery of mankind! A savagery that has existed even since humanity’s inception as a species - and promises to remain for as long as we continue to erect and then batter-down, the best-laid work and plans of mankind himself!

But ‘Fort Massachusetts’ is but a singular example of mankind’s mindset as concerns his fellow creatures – and yet, “Fort Massachusetts” still stands, even after some defiantly hostile probes “Along Our Illustrious Gulf-Coast”, during “The American Civil War!” Testing whether or not the mindless fury of humanity or the torrents of “Mother Nature Herself” will finally prevail in this contest of wills?

And yes, even this fortress (Fort Massachusetts) that was constructed near “Gulfport Mississippi” still stands, if but with the help and partial restoration, of mankind itself - proving that we can still rebuild and restore, those portions of our irreplaceable history that we have foolishly neglected, brutalized, and nearly even destroyed, during our past insanities!

“But when (if ever) will we truly learn - that the blood, sweat, tears and toil, of “American Patriots-Past” must never be forgotten or summarily dismissed - as is being done at this very moment in time!”
