Not me . Stayed within 25 klicks of the DMZ from the sea out to Laos most of my tour. Seem to remember most of the hills around Khe Shan to be 800's

Default 937

was straight west of Phu Bai about 30 miles, and about 50 miles south of DMZ

Ron.

Also, LT--- The Mountains were numbered according to there hight in meters, ie. hill 800 would be 800 meters tall.

Thumbs up

I know Ron. Around Dong Hill we would be on hill 37 then out by Laos they were mostly in the 800's.Would not have surprised me to see a dinosaur in some of those remote valleys, as Andy would say bad ju-ju out there as you know. You sure were a traveling soldier

I just went where they sent me.
Every Base camp, Like Tam Ky and Chu lai had several Fire bases, I would go from one to another, Then When The 101 came to the area we would work close with those guys, There are at least 3 hill tops that didn't have a name when we got there and cleared and built bunkers and in comes the 101 and took over. Ive worked close with the 101st, 173rd, and verious Cav units, special forces, and around DaNang with the Marines. All over I corps and part of 2 corps, Into Cambodia and way into Laos along RT9. Been to Where the A Shau and the Ia Drang valleys meet, (Around The Dak To/ Kontum area) Been through the winding pass from An Khe to Quin Nhon. Got pictures and the T-shirt. Met a whole bunch of really good guys, any of these units, when the big shit hit the little fan, you would turn around and they would be there. I didn't make much of a difference to them but they sure made a huge difference to me.

Question RON

When I got back over there with the 82nd in FEB68, we set up a base camp west of Gia Le. I think this eventually became part of Camp Eagle. Anyway, we ran patrols out by where you're talking about, but I don't remember that particular hill. But then, I was only with them up there for alittle over 2mos. before I got reassigned to a unit in Cam Ranh. Besides, I'm old ya know .

Default hamburger hill

Y know, I wish I had stopped to name some of the places I was in cool names like Hamburger Hill and Death Valley and all that because then I could say I was somewhere famous. Everyplace I was in the 101st was hella obscure and most places in the lrrps too.
In order to go down in history you have to have a rememberable name. Did the guys on Hamburger Hill call it that or was that given to it later?

I thought you were talking about hamburger hill all along. In the movie witch took place in 1969, they said it was in the Ashaw Valley. Was that acurate?
