Even the remains of our executed and most reviled criminals are rightfully claimed by their relatives, the ones who changed their diapers and put up with their temper-tantrums.

It is unacceptable and immoral to start in thinking that other human beings are "sub-human". That's what the Nazis and Stalin and Amin and Pol Pot and Slave-Traders did, to millions and millions; and it surely is not any kind of christian charity. Doesn't matter what they did with their lives, it's what we do with OURS!

Keith has the right idea; don?t deal with the family directly. I?m not sure an Islamic Cleric is the best choice of ombudsman as those two totally abused the concept of any form of human spirituality and that might spread gasoline on a already simmering fire. But maybe a respected mortician, civic leader or something along those lines would be a good choice. If the family wants the Clergy to get involved in the planting ceremonies, that?s their call and I believe we should stay well clear of those decisions. As an aside, I wouldn?t be a bit surprised if the bodies were dug up and violated by families of past victims so I believe there is a concern about corpse security on the plate. There needs to be closure on a lot of issues and I?m not sure just being dead represents closure for thousands and thousands of people. Personal paybacks and revenge are a very definable and repeatable aspect of that culture so I wouldn?t discount the possibility of all kinds of mischief if those cadavers come up for grabs.

Right or wrong even our death row inmates can get their bodies claimed by the relatives. Personally I'm glad they are dead and no longer an issue.
