This recruit should go for an "I'm an idiot" discharge.

![]() When I was in AIT (USMC, Camp Geiger, 1969: adv infantry training) I noticed that a couple of the railroad-tie reinforced foxholes at the grenade range were blasted apart. According to the combat trainer, some newbies get discombobulated if they DON'T start by holding the grenade in their throwing hand. When the pin is pulled, they fumble trying to change hands - wind up throwing the pin and dropping the grenade.
He said it was a form of "natural selection" for Marine grunts if they couldn't dive into another foxhole fast enough. Don't know if it was true but it sure drove home the point. ![]() |

![]() Had a BCT Company at Ft. Kxox in eary 70's. At the grenade range one trainee threw the grenade about 15 feet 3 times. When giving instructions how to throw it the DI had told them to start by putting the grenade in yor right hand , etc. I finally went up to the trainee and asked why he kept throwing it 15 feet.He relpled "I AM LEFT HANDED , SIR ! "
