Default NATO Secretary General welcomes EU efforts on defence at European Council in Brussel

The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed the European Council on Friday (26 June 2015) and welcomed the efforts made by the European Union to strengthen its defence sector. “ Of course NATO and the European Union are two different organizations but we have a lot in common. Actually nine out of ten EU citizens live in NATO countries and we share the same values. We share the same security environment. And now this security environment is changing, therefore both NATO and the European Union have to adapt. NATO has taken decisive steps to strengthen its collective defence. I also welcome the efforts by the European Union to strengthen its defences. A strong Europe also makes NATO strong. I look forward to discussing how we can increase the cooperation between NATO and the European Union”, said Mr. Stoltenberg at a media doorstep.
