Default Rain in Valdez, Alaska

Quote:
Dear Diann,
Is Valdez flooding as bad as they say on the news? No roads open?
Pipeline shut down?

Phil
Yes

Bridge to Alyeska damaged ... ferrying workers - only essential workers - to and from the Terminal

Waiting until they can get on-site workers at each pump station before turning on the terminal

Waterfall crashing rocks, etc and damaged road

Bridge moved 5 feet at Keystone

Road closed at Thompson pass

Roads flooded on Richardsom at some places 8" of water

Bridge to Mineral Creek trail on its side

Houses with basements in Robe River area ... flooding

We have a sump pump... but water so saturated, that even with most of a day with no rain ...
still pump goes on every 13 seconds
and electric out for 1/2 hour yesterday ... so pump was under water & just stayed on steady

Weather Service said that we had the rainiest day EVER for one day since weather service has been taking statistics ... 1AM-1AM 4.8 inches 835-4505 http://www.arh.noaa.gov/

Heard a dam around Lowe River broke ... There is a voluntary evacuation of Alpine Woods in process. Police had asked for volunteers to do sandbagging last night

There was a WARNING for small stream flooding Monday thru noon yesterday
People buying a lot at both grocery stores
Who knows, maybe Petro Star will have to sell some gas to Valdezians?

Seward got 9 inches of rain in one day ... and their town flooded, per weather report

Photos of bridges may be seen shortly on this site of info

Maggie - you take care of yourself and make sure you have a warm fire and plenty of wood. A warm drink would also go good while your staying warm.

We are having 27 Deg. F tonight with some flurries - I think I'll have a warm drink too (and not milk). Take care
