Iran launches ballistic missiles against U.S. forces in Iraq

The United States Department of Defense announced on the night of January 7-8 that Iran had launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against U.S. bases in Iraq.

In an official statement, the United States Department of Defense or DOD announced that Iran had launched, at approximately 5:30 pm (EST), over a dozen of ballistic missiles against bases of the United States Armed Forces and of the Coalition Armed Forces in Iraq.

“It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil”, states the U.S. Department of Defense which follows: “We are working on initial battle damage assessments.”

“As we evaluate the situation and our response, we will take all necessary measures to protect and defend U.S. personnel, partners, and allies in the region”, underscore the DOD recalling “it took “appropriate measures in response to Iranian threats and actions.”
