Wall ... yes
They went under Nov 70 ... you incountry then ? I did not get there till Feb 71 but I got there in time to have the NCOs ask for money for a Memorial at Ft Useless, VA ... someone probably pocketed the money or spent it on cheap Hoe. Not there is anything wrong with cheap Hoe ...
Those boats had flat ramps and flat bottoms, so when in heavy storm or typhoon ... the whole thing could get noisey and you could feel the entire boat shutter down to the weld spots. On conclusion of the search and rescue effort PFC Peoples was known to be dead and the other ten crewmen were classed as missing. At the first annual review, the Army board concluded they had been lost at sea and their status was changed to "Died while Missing; Drowned; Body not recovered" with an effective date of death of 04 Nov 1971, a year and a day after the incident. The eleven crewmen were SFC John D. Shewmake, Adona, AR SSG Calvin A. Norris, Monterey, TN SGT Dennis I. Day, Blackwell, OK SGT Richard C. Dority, Dover-Foxcroft, ME SGT David L. Ginn, Anderson, SC SGT Perry C. Kitchens, Decatur, GA SGT Arlie R. Mangus, Kittanning, PA SGT Jerry D. Martin, Bedford, IN SGT James R. Pantall, Clymer, PA SGT David W. Woods, Franklin, OH PFC Billy H. Peeples, Anderson, SC (11/03/1970) The missing men in paygrade E-3 had been promoted to E-4 as scheduled during the year they were held as missing, and all ten received a one-grade promotion at the time they were declared dead. The ranks shown above are the ranks held when declared dead, not at the time of the incident. |

Nope , got there Jan 71. We had 3 KIA body not recovered in our Squadron while I was there. All from our D Troop , our air cav troop. One I remember cause they just lost him. Harry Beckwith. He was killed and they recovered his body and put it on a UH1 back to Dong Ha but when they landed he was gone , fell out of the chopper. Did I tell you I was an Opa ?
