Barry Bonds
Bonds reporters ordered to testify
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 08/16/06 BASEBALL: A federal judge sitting in San Francisco told two San Francisco Chronicle reporters they must comply with a subpoena and tell a grand jury who leaked them secret testimony of Barry Bonds and other elite athletes ensnared in the government's steroid probe. The decision by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White means reporters Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada must appear before a grand jury investigating the leak unless a higher court blocks the ruling. The pair have said they would not testify and would go to jail rather than reveal their source or sources. Trouble with the reporters going to jail is that the jail time will only be 18 months, This is not a national security case , however it does involve alot of people in the US. Baceballs records mean nothing to me but they do to millions of kids accross the United States. These reporters chose jail, thats fine, except there should be no exit for them, Even if at some point they decided to tell. Hell with them. People that do that (put there hand on the bible in court and not tell) should be held accountable. The accountability shouldn't be up to the person sitting on the stand, ie; soon as they tell they get set free. It should be a punishment (like life in prison) if they don't tell and the sentence should stand even if they decide at some point to tell. These people make a mockery out of our legal system, and should all be made to pay. Ron |
