Freedom of Religion in Red China..not a chance !.. check this out !!
The following is from Religion Today, Jan. 14, 2003: "The New York-based Committee for Investigation on Persecution of Religion in China has released detailed reports from persecuted Christians in China, revealing that in the three-month period between June and August 2002, 182 house church Christians from 24 cities and 16 counties were arrested. Most were detained, interrogated and fined and many were tortured by police. For example, in July some 150 Christians praying in the West Lake district of Hangzhou city when more than 70 police surrounded the house, arrested three church leaders and destroyed the church kitchen with a bulldozer. The same month, police arrested eight house church members in the Fengrun district of Tangshan while they worshipped, tortured them with beatings and electric shocks and forced them to pay fines of $121 to $483."

Larry-
Ain't it amazing how some entities (nations included) tend to overlook (conveniently) the transgressions of the moment's allies? And in this respect, China sure as hell ain't no nosegay. For the record, is this (China) not one of the nations that swore an oath to bury us, and not all that long ago at that? "Be it dollars, pesos or rice, almost every dog has it's price!" "Ah yes, tred softly indeed!!"

Our College Pastor
The College Pastor at our church went to China this last summer. And this is what he informed when he came home.
Religion is allowed (under supervision of the state) in China. They have various State Forms of popular religions in China, even Christian. The churches are state run and pastors must register with the state. They don't allow preaching on certain subjects so it is a very watered down form of Christianity. Generic Christianity that has been theologically watered down. They are allowed to have and read the Bible. However the home churches, which are what most Christians attend are under constant persecution by the Government. For some reason they feel that all religion not under state control is a threat to the government. So since they do offer state run churches, mosques, and temples they feel they have freedom of religion, but in every case the doctines are closely observed so as to protect the state. Keith |
