Default Hamberger hill

When I was going to college after getting out. IN 1970 or 71 I was going to the VA office to appy for tuission and they had a new guy standing behind the counter, He was a friend of my (Newal) Last name. We strike up a conversation about VN and what unit he was in and he started this long accounting of some hill he called Hamberger hill (after a Kroean hill) At first I thought he was full of shit cause That intence of fighting was in 68 not 69. But as he went on I looked in his eyes, He was telling the truth and what a hell of a story, I used to feel sorry for me for being in some pretty tough places until I heard him. His accounting was this meat grinder of a mountan that had no end and the officers kept pushing men to die. Every once in a while hed tear up, when talking about an individual. For about 30 min he went on in detail and then just handed me my Tuission slip, See ya Ron.

OK

Ron

Thumbs up

For me this site has been a really healing place. Like Rno , and a lot of people here I felt like the lone ranger for many years (still) My wife used to tell me I thought I was the only one to fight in the war .. and I kinda agreed. I know I ain't now. Thank you all

The three days on a mountain top in North Georgia did more for me than all the years I spent at the VA. Looking into my brothers eyes and hearing the stories has made me realize that I too am not the "Lone Ranger".

Thanks John, I owe you, Sid and Mustache much!

Lt Homie,

Thanks for thinking of us.

Sorry I could get to the mountain this year, you know my circumstances and thanks for the invite. Maybe next year.

Only 2 reasons I'd miss the Psyco Vet Mtn experience next year.

1. I'm Dead

2. I'm overseas which I will explain in a new thread.

In May of 69' our Bn, 2nd, was put on alert that we may be going up country to the A Shau Valley to assist the 101 in some sort of crap that was happening there. We knew about the A Shau and weren't real pleased at the thought figgering we'd seen about enough of the friggin' NVA in Tay Ninh province. Well, LZ Carolyn happened on the 6th and we were in no shape after that to assist anyone. Bill, would have loved to have helped out in that mess.....but we got caught up in some serious poop on our own. Will never forget what you guys did there.

AIRBORNE!

One of my friends during my last 6 months in the Army at Ft. Hood was on Hamburger Hill. His favorite saying was "if worms had machineguns birds would have a hell of a time." Salute.
